Circe – Experimental Platform for Dance and Theatre presents online screening of performance:
IMAGO
What happens when dreams and reality collide? In an original solo dance-theater work, choreographer and performer Nicola Bullock offers audiences an experience that explores the ground between what we are and what we imagine ourselves to be. A masked creature awakens in an unfamiliar world, cringes at the sight of light, and moves its alien body for the first time. As it gradually morphs into a more recognizable form – a human body – its animal instincts contend with social constructions of femininity, ageing, and desire. Bound by the rigidity of these concepts, the creature struggles to adopt “identity-appropriate” behavior while remaining connected to its wild nature. Inspired by science-fiction, Greek mythology, Impressionist paintings, and Golden-Era movies, IMAGO draws viewers into a space where truth and illusion are inseparable.

bio
Nicola Bullock is a choreographer, dancer, producer, and teacher. She has choreographed more than 40 pieces, ranging from musicals to recitals to a 3D film to countless solos and small group works. She has performed in immersive theatre events, site-specific pieces, and danced and performed at clubs, festivals, and in music videos. She has produced three art parties which each featured 10-15 artists; two evening-length works of her own choreography; and co-produced a trip for 8 Berlin-based artists to dance, teach, and perform in Israel. In addition to her work as an artist and producer she has worked to support artists making work on a community level, volunteer-taught Pilates to women in prison, and engaged in direct political protest against injustices and illegal actions of the state. She is equally passionate about art as she is about social justice and strives to make work that is meaningful to a collective movement towards consciousness and equality.
